Internet Trouble, So A Few Short Notes About A Legend Company

I got up this morning to find my high speed Internet service provided by the wonderful
monopoly AT&T not working. I say monopoly because in a town as large as Pigeon Forge,
they are the only telephone service except for wireless that I can get. I may switch the
Internet after this.

The company has been worthless since I quit working for them as an engineer in the late
1960's. Well, that's my story and I'm sticking to it.

I got the worthless part right anyway. Sorry to all you AT&T employees who are my loyal
readers but I haven't been a fan since South Central Bell built their new 30 story marble
office building in Birmingham, blocking their own microwave system and thousands of long
distance telephone calls with their own office building for deadbeats to sit in and do little
every day other than read Bell System Practices on how to kiss ______with the public. .

It eventually worked out great. They temporarily (few months) bounced the TD2 microwave
signals around the City from a reflector rigged on top of the old T.J. hotel to the tower on top
of the main eqpt. building on 6th. Ave, which lowered the quality of the calls. To fix the huge
mistake, they spent many million constructing a new microwave tower and building on top of
Red Mountain and cabled it from there right through the middle of downtown B'ham (dug up
downtown) to the main equipment at 6th Ave. Why? Because the President of the company
had secretly purchased the land for the new office building from his church. The top few that
were aware of it was unaware that location would block their own highly critical service from
the space center in Huntsville to Cape Canaveral as well as thousands of telephone calls of
their customers.

It worked at great for the company. Why, because since they were a monopoly, they were
regulated by the FCC and limited to a certain percentage of profit
based on their
What....based on their expense or investment? Yep. They made a huge profit off
of their customers on a multi-million, maybe in the billions, stupid mistake, they called an
investment. Yes, if you had telephone service in the late 1960's most anywhere in Alabama,
you and other Southern Bell customers paid the bill on it while they
made a good profit off
of the dumbest mistake of that magnitude I know of.

Take that bit of truth AT&T and the various Bell companies.
