Current Stream and Weather Conditions
Excellent from all standpoints
The present weather forecast for the next few days couldn't be any better for this
time of the year.

The stream levels are back down to a reasonable level. The trout probably won't
take the generic, junk flies and poor presentations as readily, but at least you can
get the fly to them without fighting heavy current. Wading will be much easier and

I didn't have an opportunity to fish yesterday and I was not very happy about it. It
should have been a great day to be on the streams of the Smokies. Thursday
afternoon, I did fish for about an hour on the Middle Prong of Little Pigeon River
with good results even though the water was a little high. I also spent about an hour
on Little River with very good results including a very nice brown trout. The wind
died down late in the day and conditions were very good.

Sad Business News:
According to what I read and from what I can determine by trying to check their
website and other sources of information, the long time Kaufmann's Streamborn fly
fishing stores in Washington and Oregon have closed.
Here's just one of many
articles about this. I have ordered fly fishing product over the years from them and
always received very good service. i hate to hear they have closed the stores.

I'm not certain as to why this happened, but with nothing to do with it whatsoever, I
would like to express my opinion that unless our national leadership approach to
small business changes drastically in the near future, there will be many other small
businesses closing their doors and our economy will get in worse shape that it is
now for most people.

Updated Insect List:
As mentioned yesterday, I have updated the above list of insects to reflect recent
and upcoming changes in the hatches. There's a couple of insects that may be a
week or two early, but it's close enough and will prevent me from having to redo the
list often.
